Crossing the Line by Katie McGarry

Genre: YA

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads Says: Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo's best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

My initial thoughts upon finishing this wonderful little gem:

*Katie McGarry is one awesome writer. Yep, one of my faves.

This has to be one of the greatest novellas I've read. I was amazed by how much emotion was packed into 67 pages. It’s been a long time since I've been in the Pushing the Limits world and sadly I had forgotten who Lila was.  I remember Noah and Echo, though! However, it didn't matter that I couldn't remember because it only took me a few pages to be thrust right back into this world and smacked with some Pushing the Limits reality!

It was great to see Lila’s and Lincoln’s friendship/relationship blossom.  It was a sweet romance, obviously not without some turmoil because it just wouldn't be a McGarry book without it. Honestly though, how sweet is it to really get to know someone and fall for someone via their thoughts on paper? It’s totally cute and it reminds me of when I was that age. My first boyfriend and I kept a journal and we would write back and forth in this journal and pass said journal in-between classes.

Any whooo… If you haven’t been introduced to this author and her wonderful books, I suggest you go out and get her books or download them from your fave e-book store.
