Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Genre: YA Contemporary

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads Says: Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Lola and the Boy Next Door was SUCH a CUTE story! I really liked this read better than Anna and the French Kiss. I have fallen in love with Stephanie Perkins’ writing. It’s always light, funny, easy and realistic. All of the characters were likable. I loved the family dynamic that was created in this book. I haven’t read anything like this yet. It was refreshing and executed in such a great way. Lola was such an interesting character and it took me a bit to realize that she had a totally new look every single day. How AWESOME is that?! Anna and Etienne make an appearance in this read. The reader was able to catch up with them enough to still appreciate their relationship yet still understand that Lola and her story was on the front burner.

The narrator was pretty awesome and she did a great English accent when creating Etienne's voice.

This has been great all the way around. Great world building, great characters, great story, great ending!

My only regret is not standing in line at RT to buy these books and get Stephanie Perkins’ personalized signature! UGH! Maybe next time...

*This is a stand alone read. You DO NOT have to read Anna and the French Kiss prior to this one to follow along.
